Umpires and the growth of London Academy Table Tennis

Umpires Course

Our strengths and successes on the table are well known, and we have every intention of making this another successful season.

However, this season is bringing new challenges both on and off the table. We will be running more tournaments at London Academy in the up coming season than we ever have before.

Between Senior British League, 2 Star, 1 Star, National Cadet League, the North London Schools qualifiers, and our own Outreach Championships, we are going to be flexing our administrative muscles like never before.

Part of this process has meant acquiring new skills and creating new partnerships. On Saturday 3rd September that process continued when twenty two parents, coaches and players took the first steps in qualifying as Level 1 coaches.

Under the careful tuition of Tom Purcell and David Edwards, the future officials went through the various rules and regulations of the game in the morning, before going to some practical demonstrations and actual match practice in the main hall after lunch.

According to Tom, the day went really well, and we are looking forward to when all of our students complete the course and get their first taste of actual umpiring.
